I have been using Dirty Unicorns as my daily driver from past 3 days and the experience so far is quiet good. In this post I would be covering the pros and cons of the rom. Dirty Unicorns project started in 2012 and the rom is based on AOSP. Dirty Unicorns rom is also known as DU rom and the current version of the rom is 12.1 which is based on android oreo. Dirty Unicorns supports only few devices which includes couple of Oneplus devices and others. The build that I am using on my Redmi Note 4 is an unofficial build by Ali Hasan.
Let's start the review with the pros. Just after flashing the rom you are greeted by beautiful bootanimation. Although Dirty Unicorns is based on AOSP the customization are decent. You get all the tweaks in the tab called dirty tweaks. Under which you get system, lockscreen, status bar, navigation and multitasking. Now let's have a look at them one by one.
System
Under system you get expanded desktop to get a full-screen experience by hiding status bar and navigation bar (if enabled) and then you get miscellaneous under which you get screenshot editor over here you can set your preferred editing app and at last you get power menu which includes advanced reboot and lockscreen options.
Lockscreen
Over here you get fingerprint prefs under which you get fingerprint authentication vibration. You also get lockscreen items which includes clock widget, date widget, alarm text, double tap to sleep and some other tweaks.
Status Bar
In status bar you get battery options, carrier label, clock options, icon manger, notifications, quick settings and traffic indicators.
Navigation
Over here you get button customization and navigation bar.
Multitasking
You get heads up, recents and ticker
Wait the list is not over you get some other options in display which includes the screen off animation, system theme and a new option which is fonts which includes 16 fonts.
The next thing that I liked about the rom was its performance and battery life. I was getting nearly 10 hours of screen on time easily on my usage which includes youtube, gaming and web browsing. Gaming performance is also good there were no lags while playing PUBG mobile on high settings.
With all these greatness you get some minor bugs which are notification led doesn't glow while charging the device but glows on receiving new notifications. Also you don't get default music player.
Before summing up the review few points to remember the rom isn't treble based and unofficial and contains some bugs which I have already mentioned above.
